TekTone

Communications For Today... And Tomorrow

TekTone designs and manufactures high quality, affordable nurse call, wireless nurse call, wander management, alert integration and emergency call products. In addition, we specialize in pocket paging, apartment entry, and area of rescue assistance systems that are used in a wide range of applications.

Our line of nurse call systems includes tone-visual, wireless, and fully programmable systems. These systems are used as nurse call and emergency call systems in CCRC, skilled care, assisted living, senior housing and independent living facilities. They are also found in clinics and doctors' offices, and public and private hospitals throughout the world.

History - In 1973, TekTone Sound & Signal Mfg., Inc. began its manufacturing operations in Lake Park, Florida. Since that time, the company has grown rapidly to serve the intercommunication market both nationally and internationally. In 1989, TekTone opened a manufacturing facility in Franklin, North Carolina. In 1998, TekTone constructed a vast research and development department in Franklin, and in 2001 we relocated all operations to Franklin.

In 2016, TekTone purchased a 72,262-square-foot facility in the same industrial park and moved all operations under one roof. The new facility is more than twice the size of the previous space, which will allow TekTone to expand its workforce and output. Being a key player in the nurse call system market and doing business on 5 continents, this new space will accommodate the expected growth.

Industries Served

Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) are health care facilities that offer patients the convenience of having surgeries and procedures performed safely outside the hospital setting. This trend in healthcare is a growing new market and TekTone has designed our systems to offer valuable nurse and emergency call capabilities to ASC patients.

Nurse Call SystemsTekTone offers a variety of Tek-CARE nurse call systems — from a basic direct-select audible-visual system, to the latest microprocessor-based audio/visual system — plus wireless nurse/emergency call. All Tek-CAREnurse call systems are UL 1069 Listed and approved, and are scalable to meet a facility’s needs by integrating with pocket pagers, wireless phones, and management reporting software.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities & Life Plan Communities

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC), also known as Life Plan Communities, are designed for seniors who are currently living independently, but want the safety and security of being cared for as they age without having to relocate. As a resident’s health declines, he or she may transition from an independent living residence to assisted living, to an intermediate or skilled nursing facility—all on one campus. TekTone offers systems specialized in adapting to the changing needs of CCRCs, while keeping resident’s safety and security a top priority.

Wireless and wired Tek-CARE systems are a perfect solution for senior living facilities. With fixed or mobile wireless devices, the Tek-CARE500 Wireless Nurse Call / Emergency Call System provides residents with the safety, independence and peace of mind they deserve. The wired Tek-CARE400 Nurse Call System with touchscreen master and crystal-clear audio provides residents in skilled nursing areas—with the additional comfort of two-way communication over a CAT5 network. TekTone is also the first company to offer a wireless system that fully integrates with a wired audio-based system.

CCRC campuses sometimes include dozens of alarms and systems that monitor the safety and security of their residents. TekTone has taken this into account to provide a single system that integrates all calls. The Tek-ALERT Integration Manager allows a facility to seamlessly integrate calls and activities from many systems and route those calls to the appropriate caregiver or staff member. By integrating hard-wired nurse call, wireless nurse call / emergency call, fire alarm, security and access control systems, Tek-ALERT Integration Manager provides a CCRC with a single point to manage staffing, patient safety and maintenance.

Skilled Nursing

A skilled nursing facility (nursing home, convalescent home, care home or rest home) provides a place of residence for those who require continuous nursing attention. Services available in skilled nursing facilities include assistance of nurses, nursing aides and assistants; physical, occupational and speech therapists; social workers, recreational assistants; and living space. In some instances, residents may reside in skilled nursing facilities to receive rehabilitation or other therapy following an illness or accident.

Skilled nursing facilities require a complete UL® 1069 Listed Tek-CARE nurse call system with call stations, pull-cord stations, staff assist stations, and corridor lights. Besides being a requirement, Tek-CARE nurse call implementation in skilled nursing environments can have benefits such as efficiency gains—allowing your facility to do more with less. A facility can market its world-class nurse call system and its features to potential residents and their families. System reporting capabilities provide resident family members with peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are receiving care in an exemplary period of time.

TekTone offers various levels of Tek-CARE nurse call systems—from a basic direct-select audible-visual system, to the latest microprocessor-based audio/visual system. All hardwired Tek-CARE nurse call systems are UL® 1069 Listed and approved for skilled nursing facilities, hospitals and medical centers, and are scalable to meet a facility’s needs by integrating with pocket pagers, wireless phones, and management report software.

Assisted/Independent Living

Assisted living / independent living facilities usually have a campus-wide call system so a resident can notify caregivers by initiating a call from a personal pendant or emergency button press/pull. The systems specified for these types of facilities are usually referred to as emergency call systems or personal emergency response systems. Call system requirements in assisted/independent living vary, but may be mandatory in some states. Assisted living facilities may prefer a combination of Tek-CARE wireless and wired technology, with pull-cord stations, call buttons and wireless pendants to ensure staff members are notified efficiently and quickly.

The Perfect SolutionWireless and wired Tek-CARE life safety systems are a perfect solution for assisted/independent living facilities. With fixed or mobile wireless devices, the Tek-CARE500 Wireless Nurse Call / Emergency Call System provides residents with the safety, independence and peace of mind they deserve. The wired Tek-CARE400 Nurse Call System with touchscreen master and crystal-clear audio provides residents in skilled nursing areas with the additional comfort of two-way communication. TekTone is also the first company to offer a wireless system that fully integrates with a wired audio-based system.

The Tek-ALERT Integration Manager allows a facility to seamlessly integrate calls and activities from all life safety systems and route those calls to the appropriate caregiver. By integrating hard-wired nurse call, wireless nurse call / emergency call, fire alarm, security and access control systems, Tek-ALERT Integration Manager provides Assisted/Independent Living facilities a single point to manage staffing, patient safety and maintenance.

Hospitals & Cancer Centers

Nurse call systems for hospitals, microhospitals and cancer centers must offer more than the ability for a patient to call for a nurse. These systems are now about total solutions to improving facility performance. Performance is identified as improving efficiency in terms of facility goals (rounding, reducing time to answer calls, tracking staff performance using metrics), improving staff satisfaction, and improving patient satisfaction.

The nurse call system must be flexible enough to adapt to future needs and to allow for integration to future systems, while being UL® 1069 Listed. Reporting capabilities allow staff to not only track efficiency, but they protect both the patient and staff by providing solid data in the event of a problem. Aesthetics, durability and ease of use are a consideration in the hospital, microhospital and cancer center markets, along with corridor lighting and pleasant sounds.

Alerting devices such as pagers, wireless phones and smart phone notification increase mobility and productivity—by sending calls to them almost instantaneously. Nurse call systems that interface with facility information systems, such as admit–discharge–transfer systems, are highly effective in supporting efficient patient care by providing detailed patient information. Furthermore, tracking patients, staff and assets using tracking software results in enhanced workflow and improved patient care.

TekTone offers various levels of Tek-CARE nurse call systems from a basic direct-select audible-visual to the latest microprocessor-based audio/visual nurse call system. All Tek-CARE nurse call systems are UL® Listed and approved for hospital, microhospital and cancer center applications while being scalable to meet a facility’s needs by integrating with pocket pagers, wireless phones, management reporting software, and a variety of other ancillary systems.

Psychiatric & Behavioral Health Facilities

Nurse call systems in high security facilities, such as prison, psychiatric, and behavioral health facilities, require the implementation of advanced features to protect against vandalism and to provide accurate monitoring and reporting options.

TekTone‘s line of vandal-resistant stations for the Tek-CARE400 P5+ nurse call system provide worry-free emergency communications in detention and psychiatric environments.

The Vandal-Resistant/Psychiatric Staff Emergency Station is located in the room or ward where intercom is desired, and a Key Switch is located outside the ward. Staff Emergency Switches may also be located in the ward. Turning the key in the key switch:

  • Turns on the Call button on the Staff Station.
  • Turns on associated Staff Emergency Switches.
  • Places an Enabled call at the centrally located master station.
  • Turns on a purple dome light in the hallway.

The staff emergency station, key switch, staff emergency switch and remote speaker/microphone include these vandal-resistant features:

  • 16-gauge stainless steel panels.
  • Aluminum mesh in front of Mylar® speakers.
  • Buttons have a metal case, a metal actuator and a smooth face.
  • Tamper-resistant spanner-head screws.
